Safeway Inc. announced that its Safeway brand skipjack (chunk-light) canned tuna will be responsibly caught using free-school purse-seine methods. The company will transition to the purse-seine method by the end of the year. Safeway is implementing these new specifications at a time when the tuna fishing industry is finding better ways to address the significant negative ecosystem impacts associated with purse-seine netted tuna fishing, a method that employs fish aggregating devices (FADs). Under Armour was named the official outfitter of Loyola University Maryland’s 17 athletic teams as well as for coaches and staff. This will begin in the 2012-2013 season.

AT&T expanded its 4G LTE network in College Park, bringing more customers the latest generation of wireless technology. AT&T launched 4G LTE in Baltimore in November 2011, and the expanded coverage in College Park is part of its ongoing rollout across the market.

Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union CEO Richard T. Webb announced the management team promotions of two key personnel. Carol deGroot was promoted from Human Resources Manager to Director of Human Resources. Matthew P. Piazza, was promoted from Director of Finance to Vice President of Finance.

Pepco Holdings Inc. Chairman, President and CEO, Joseph M. Rigby, was voted the “Best Business Philanthropist” in the Washington metropolitan area in an informal online poll conducted by The Washington Business Journal (WBJ) from December 2, 2011 through January 25, 2012. McCormick & Co. plans to open its first retail store, called McCormick World of Flavors at the Light Street pavilion at Harborplace this summer. The 3,800 sq. ft. store will include cooking demonstrations and interactive displays, as well as a wide range of gifts. Read More

Grace & Co. realigned its business into three operating segments and elected three officers: Grace Catalysts Technologies — Shawn Abrams, President, Grace Materials Technologies — Joanne Green, President and Grace Construction Products — Andrew Bonham, President. Lockheed Martin was awarded one of five Operations Support Services Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contracts from the U.S. General Services Administration Federal Systems Integration and Management Center in support of the Department of Defense’s Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization. The anticipated period of performance is two years with three optional one-year periods and an estimated cost ceiling of $900 million. Read More

It will have features such as concession stands, restrooms, observation boxes, a large press box and filming areas.
