The Maryland Chamber: In Reality Episode One from Storyfarm New Media on Vimeo.
New Maryland Chamber of Commerce member Storyfarm New Media is partnering with us to create a monthly reality video series chronicling the company’s first year of membership.
The goal of the video series is to call attention to the many ways the Maryland Chamber helps member companies grow, while working to enhance the state’s economy and business climate. Follow along as Storyfarm Managing Partner John Sherman attends Maryland Chamber events, connects with other members, gets involved in Chamber committees and activities, and learns more about the organization’s legislative advocacy efforts in Annapolis.
We’re pretty excited about this new collaboration, and we hope you find it entertaining and informative. This new format is being pioneered by Storyfarm, and we think it’s a great fit to showcase our efforts and get real-time feedback about our events and activities.
In the first episode, Sherman begins the series by going to the joint Marketing and Membership committee meeting at McCormick & Company headquarters in Sparks. Watch as John makes new contacts, learns about the Chamber’s legislative agenda for 2011, and shares what it’s like to be be a part of it from a newcomer’s perspective.

I’m a die-hard Ravens fan, so forgive me if I get excited about this. We held our Membership Drive Kickoff Reception in the Ravens’ locker room at M&T Bank Stadium last week.
It was a lot of fun. I got to hang out with some old Chamber friends and made some new ones. We snuck onto to the field. We took pictures by the “Play Like a Ravens” sign. Ed Burchell, Vice President of Regional Partnerships and Sales for the Ravens, was a great host. He shared interesting Ravens tidbits and information about M&T Bank Stadium. More importantly, he showed us which locker Ray Lewis calls home during the season. It was empty, but I still got to see it and sit on his stool.
I was standing in the back of the room listening to Ed’s remarks when he dropped a bombshell. He will give the first Chamber member to recruit five new members during the membership campaign a private tour of Ravens’ headquarters and training facility in Owings Mills, followed by lunch with Ravens’ Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron. The winner gets to take five guests as well. Needless to say, I’m available.
Most Ravens fans probably already know about the 200,000 square-foot headquarters and training facility, dubbed “The Castle” by local media. But, if you need more motivation to convince you to help grow the Chamber, check out the virtual tour Ravens Senior VP, Public & Community Relations Kevin Byrne gave Ravens fans on the Baltimore Sun’s website last year.
The Chamber’s membership drive ends on April 28. Members interested in participating can sign up for the membership drive email list. The Chamber will send you resources to help your recruitment efforts, as well as weekly updates.
I don’t know about you, but with all this snow, and the salt on the road, I could really use a car wash!
Maryland Chamber Chairman Joe Slater, President and CEO of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, has a special offer for you. The Chamber will kick off its 2010 Membership Drive on February 24. During the membership drive, we encourage every member to recruit a new member to help make the Chamber stronger. This year, if you recruit three new members, Maryland Chamber Chairman Joe Slater will wash your car.
Join us for the Membership Drive Kickoff reception on Wednesday, February 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the Baltimore Ravens’ locker room at M&T Bank Stadium. The event is free, but registration is required. For more information, or to register, contact Gail Lemke at (410) 269-0642, (301) 261-2858 or glemke@mdchamber.org.
In addition to Joe’s car wash offer, for each new member recruited before April 28, the recruiter will receive one entry to win prizes and recognition during the Annual Meeting/Business Hall of Fame Dinner , which is expected to attract more than 500 high level business executives.
