Safeway Inc. was awarded the Supermarket News Champion of Diversity Award, specifically for its leadership in mentoring and elevating women, employing nearly 10,000 people with disabilities, and for it’s dedication to hiring, training, mentoring and promoting a diverse workforce, according to a press release from the company.
“Diversity is a core part of who we are as a company, and firmly linked to how we manage relationships with employees, customers and suppliers,” Safeway Executive Vice President, Chief Strategist and Administrative Officer Larree Renda said in the release.
The award is presented to a single grocery company annually and recognizes companies that successfully attract and retain a diverse workforce.
