If you’re looking to cut costs and implement environmentally friendly practices within your office, consider discontinuing the use of single-use plastic water bottles and cups and providing your employees with reusable water bottles or biodegradable plastic cups.
As a part of its effort to make greener choices, law firm Whiteford, Taylor & Preston abandoned the practice of providing bottled water, and instead provided their employees with reusable, BPA-free plastic water bottles and filtered water. Before the switch, the firm had used 86,400 bottles of water over the course of a year, and a majority of those bottles were not being recycled.
“There was a lot of loss when we provided the bottled water, both economically and environmentally. We wanted to cut costs and be greener with our practices,” Barbara Wilson, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston’s Director of Human Resources, said.
Another option is to replace the use of single-use plastic and Styrofoam cups with compostable hot and cold cups made from corn. These products can be found at a number of online suppliers.
